January Race Highlights:
Oh no! It happened! Just when a TB takes an especially nice, long trip, such as to Australia, and just when that bug slides solidly into first place (for December ’13), then it seems geomule “umph” disappears to nothing. NOT A THING!
Upon landing in Australia and taking first place in December, T-Mobile Cell 1 [Pirates of Columbia] has not budged an inch! The last time this bug moved was December 11; that’s nearly two months. OUCH! After picking up this TB in NJ, stopping in CA, then arriving in New South Wales, Australia, this bug has stalled! And what has this allowed? Not one, but TWO TBs to slip by and take first and second place, while hovering into third place.
Congratulations to our new leader: Vintage 60′s Roadrunner [grannie545], and to 2nd place leader, Leap Frogger [KarebearAnnie]! While T-Movile Cell 1 was snoozing, they skipped into the top two positions. But also note, for the past two months, these top three TBs remain in the top three positions, only they’ve traded places. It will be interesting to observe what will happen at the close of February!
Congratulations also to the remaining top five: Purple Sarah [BraillerCD] and Green Pig [Nancyroo]. This is the first time these two bugs have made it to the top five. Well done!
Cachers uploaded 38 pics for the month of January; they have been posted and are available for your perusal.
Luigi of Team Mario [madhauler]. It was dropped in “Turpine” (GC3AFFH), but no cacher has made mention of seeing it. Madhauler, on one of his trips across the Ohio Turnpike, I-80, stopped by in Mid-January and confirmed that his TB was missing. In fact, it is very unlikely that the small pill bottle cache was large enough to hold Luigi. Adding to the mystery, the geomules, who allegedly dropped him have a total of 2 finds; obviously, very inexperienced cachers. According to their profile, they created their geocaching account on Oct. 2, 2013, and the last time they last visited the website was Oct. 2, 2013. Hmm…. Looks like a short-lived caching career. Such are the fates of our racers.
Mrs. Smooch’s Bling Thing [TheSmooches]. A local cacher sent the dreaded “This trackable has been marked missing” message. The TB was dropped in a cache in WV, where it had been discovered several times. Then, about a month later, another cacher sent the “missing” message. Unfortunately, this bug scored no points. It would be nice if it could return to the race!
Winnie The Pooh Traveler [Gilwell1]. This racer also received the “marked missing” message, sent in by a local cacher. At least this bug did travel a few miles, from CT to the sunny, warm climes of FL. But after arriving in FL, it was discovered once, and then, about five weeks later, a cacher sent the “missing” message. At least Winnie scored 1,008 points. Who knows? Perhaps, it may return to the race!
